Philosophers and theologians have often wrestled with what a just society looks like. We see this in Plato’s Republic, in Augustine’s City of God, and in 20th century books like Brave New World and 1984 that give dystopian outlooks about the future of society organized under totalitarian principles.
How is a Christian to understand justice? What do general and special revelation say about this topic? Being prepared to address challenges in this area of life requires having an understanding of the moral law and its many applications to individual and social life. These considerations direct us to the good—our purpose as humans.
This study of the concept of social justice will take us into the idea of justice itself. What is justice? What is the purpose of society? Along with these questions we will be exploring how justice gets us to the good.
